How to propagate silver-edged spider plant

How to propagate silver-edged spider plant

1. Cutting propagation

1. Prepare the cuttings

We first cut some stems and leaves from its creeping stems, then let the wounds dry a little, and then we can start cuttings.

2. Cuttings

After the cuttings are cut, we can start propagating them. The specific time is generally from spring to autumn. It can be done at any time during this period and it is easy to survive. When taking cuttings, we can insert the cuttings directly into the flowerpot. Be careful not to insert them too deep, otherwise the heart will rot easily. After it has been grafted, we need to water it and water it thoroughly once, and then we can place it in a cool place for maintenance.

2. Division propagation

First, we take the plant out of the pot, remove the old soil and bad roots on it, then cut the old roots at once, and leave 3 stems on each separated plant, and then we can transplant them separately. In addition to cutting the old roots, we can also plant its stems and leaves directly in the flowerpot.

3. Seed propagation

1. Obtaining seeds

Every year when its fruits are ripe, we can pick them, dry them slightly, take out the seeds inside, and then store the seeds for sowing next year.

2. Planting

It is usually sown in March every year. Because its seeds are not very large, there is no need to cover it with too thick soil after planting it in the soil. Generally, only 0.5 cm thick is enough. Then keep the temperature at around 15 degrees, and the seeds will basically germinate after 2 weeks.

3. Maintenance after sowing

After its seeds sprout, we cannot let them receive too strong sunlight. Just a little light will be enough. Otherwise, if the light is too strong, it will burn the small buds. Then we have to water it slowly. Remember not to give it too much water each time. As long as the soil is slightly moist, the small buds will soon grow into seedlings. After these seedlings are formed, they can be transplanted and cultivated separately.
