How to plant Lilium odoratum seeds

How to plant Lilium odoratum seeds

1. Introduction

The germination rate of Lilium odoratum seeds is very small, but the harvest of seeds is still very large. Generally, it needs to go through the pollination stage before capsules can grow on the flower stems. Generally, each capsule can produce about sixty seeds. Although its seed germination rate is particularly low, it can be greatly improved if treated with gibberellins. After the seeds are planted, it takes a long time for them to germinate, usually two years. This is because they are in a deep dormancy, so they have to wait so long.

2. Soil Selection

It is important to choose soil that has good drainage, good air circulation, and a high content of organic nutrients. If the soil pH is too low, it needs to be neutralized with alkaline chemicals. This method can not only lower the soil pH, but also kill harmful insects and various harmful fungi, and promote the germination of its seeds. If the soil is found to be highly alkaline, it will need to be neutralized with an acidic agent.

3. Environmental requirements

After the seeds are planted, the most suitable temperature for germination is around 20 degrees Celsius, and the maximum should not exceed 25 degrees Celsius. If the temperature is too high, the germination rate will be low, and the roots of the germinated seeds will easily die. In summer, always keep the soil cool. At night, you need to pay attention that the temperature cannot be lower than fifteen degrees Celsius, otherwise it will lead to a low germination rate and the seedlings will not be easy to emerge from the soil. Therefore, in winter, you need to keep warm.

4. Lighting Management

After the seeds are planted, they can be exposed to some light, but not too much. Sometimes shading is needed in the summer.
