How to plant iris seeds

Obtaining seeds

The seeds of iris are obtained from its fruits. In mid-January, the fruits of iris are basically ripe and can be picked. Then open the picked fruits to get the seeds.

Sowing time

Iris is suitable for sowing as soon as it is harvested. After collecting the seeds, you can start preparing for sowing. If you want to store the seeds, you need to dry the seeds first, evaporate the moisture in the seeds as much as possible, and then refrigerate them in a refrigerator at 0℃~4℃, and wait until March or September of the following year to revive them and use them for sowing.

Soil selection

In order to provide sufficient air support for the seeds, you should try to choose soil with strong air circulation when choosing the cultivation soil, which can greatly improve the germination rate of the seeds.

In order to meet the growth needs of young plants after seeds germinate, the selected cultivation soil should contain high fertility to ensure that the seeds can absorb sufficient nutrients from the soil.

Try to choose a planting soil with a certain degree of drainage for planting. If the cultivation soil used has poor drainage, water may accumulate in the soil and cause the seeds to rot.

It prefers wetlands, and the selected cultivation soil should have a certain degree of moisture retention capacity.

Planting method

Choose a flowerpot of appropriate size, put the growing soil in it, and level the surface of the soil. At this time, be careful not to press the soil hard, so as to avoid the density of the cultivation soil being too high, causing poor air circulation in the soil.

Place the selected seeds evenly on the soil surface. At this time, you should pay attention to ensure that there is enough distance between the seeds to prevent the mature plants from growing too close to each other and competing for survival resources.

Then cover the seeds with a layer of planting soil, and try to ensure that the soil thickness is moderate, not too thick or too thin. If the soil is too thick, it will be difficult for the seeds to germinate. If the soil is too thin, the roots of the mature plants will be exposed outside the soil and easily damaged.

Post-production care

After sowing the seeds, find a semi-shaded room to place the flower pot. Pay attention to the moisture of the culture soil in the flowerpot and do not let it dry out. Water it in time to ensure it is moist and provide the seeds with a suitable growth environment.

It won't be long before they grow out.
