How to prune yellow jasmine

How to prune yellow jasmine

1. Thinning branches

The method of thinning branches is also called thinning pruning. This method mainly involves cutting off the dense branches, overlapping branches and relatively thin branches of the yellow jasmine. This can increase its growth space, improve ventilation and light transmittance, and at the same time make its branches more evenly distributed, which is conducive to the differentiation of its flower buds and better flowering effects. This pruning method can also effectively prevent and control diseases and pests, and promote the healthy growth and development of the yellow jasmine.

2. Shortening

This pruning method is mainly to increase the number of short branches in the yellow jasmine, which can effectively expand the crown and make its overall tree shape more beautiful. Generally, 20% of the newly grown branches of the year are cut off. This can inhibit the rapid growth of branches and stimulate the remaining branches to sprout again, allowing each part of the yellow jasmine to grow evenly and lay a good foundation for its overall shaping later. If the branches are too thick, whether you use the pruning method of short-cutting or thinning, you need to use a special hacksaw. The hacksaw should first make an incision under the branch, and then go down to the saw cut to cut it off. It is important to make sure the saw cut is flush to prevent damage to the xanthophyllales.

3. Remove tillers

This pruning method starts from the root of the yellow jasmine and cuts off the shoots close to the ground. The purpose of this is to protect the growth of its main branches. During daily maintenance, you must pay close attention to those yellow jasmine plants that are prone to sprouting suckers, and remove them before the suckers become woody. At this time, you can usually just break them off with your hands. But if you miss this period, you have to cut it off with scissors.

4. Auxiliary pruning

The so-called auxiliary pruning mainly refers to pruning methods such as shortening, pinching, and bud removal. The purpose is to prevent the branches of the yellow jasmine from growing too vigorously. By cutting off some excess branches, it can grow more evenly and the overall tree shape will be more beautiful.
