How to propagate pine red plum by cuttings

How to propagate pine red plum by cuttings

Time for cuttings

The main method of propagation of pine red plum is cutting propagation, which is mainly carried out in spring, which is more suitable for the rooting and germination of pine red plum branches. Cuttings in autumn are also possible.

Preparation for cuttings

For spring cuttings, two-year-old pine red plum branches are generally chosen as cuttings, with a length of about 10 cm and the upper leaves retained.

For autumn cuttings, you can choose strong and full branches grown in the current year as cuttings.

After selecting the cuttings, cut them and soak the base of the cuttings in a 5% rooting agent solution for one minute. Then take them out and place them in a ventilated place to dry, which takes about two minutes. If the cuttings are to be planted in autumn, the rooting agent should be 8% rooting agent solution, and soak them in it for 3 minutes. After drying for 5 minutes, the cuttings can be planted.

The substrate for cuttings is prepared with peat soil and perlite in a ratio of 7:1, and the pH value of the substrate should be adjusted to between 6.5 and 7.0.

Steps of cutting

The insertion depth of the cuttings is between one-third and one-half of the cuttings, and water them thoroughly after insertion.

Pay attention to maintaining appropriate temperature and humidity, and provide appropriate shading. It will take about 35-45 days for rooting to take place. The survival rate of cuttings can reach 75%. The steps for cuttings in autumn are the same as those in spring, but the survival rate of cuttings in autumn can reach 65%.

Pay attention to weeding during the cutting period, and apply as little fertilizer as possible and use thin liquid fertilizer.

When the height of the cuttings reaches more than 10 cm and the number of branches reaches more than 3, you can transplant them into pots.
