How to propagate Tradescantia by cuttings

How to propagate Tradescantia by cuttings

time

The cutting propagation of Tradescantia is mostly carried out from April to June every year, but it is best to carry out the cutting propagation of Tradescantia in autumn. Autumn cutting propagation has many advantages.

Tradescantia is easier to survive and grows quickly when cut into pieces in autumn. And because the stems are not high and the leaves are lush, it is easy for Tradescantia to grow in winter. The Tradescantia plant grafted in this way will bloom more in the next year and will be beautiful beyond words.

method

Preparation before cutting

Healthy, pest-free stem tips are usually used as propagation materials for Tradescantia cuttings. The stems are cut into 6-8 cm long sections, each with more than three leaves. Young and tender branches at the top can also be used as cuttings. When propagating Tradescantia through cuttings, fine sand can be used as the propagation medium. Choose suitable cultivation containers, either flower pots or seedling beds.

Cutting operation

Insert the Tradescantia oleifera obliquely into a flowerpot filled with fine sand, with the plug halfway inserted into the soil. It will take root after half a month.

After Tradescantia is grafted, it should be sprayed with water every day to keep it moist. The air humidity should not be too low. It should be placed in a cool place for maintenance and topdressed once every 20-30 days. In this way, Tradescantia can reproduce quickly.

Once the roots of the Tradescantia are strong, it can be transplanted.

Maintenance

Stay hydrated

After cuttings, pay attention to watering the Tradescantia and keep the soil in the pot moist at ordinary times. The soil in the pot cannot be too dry. If it is too dry, the Tradescantia will have fewer leaves, longer stems, and weak leaves. In addition, you need to spray water on the leaves frequently to keep them moist.

Reasonable fertilization

Tradescantia has a relatively large demand for fertilizer. The more fertilizer is applied, the more vigorous the growth will be, and the more leaves will grow and the larger the leaves will be. Therefore, fertilizer should be applied frequently to meet the growth needs of Tradescantia.
