How to deal with Amaryllis after flowering

How to deal with Amaryllis after flowering

Post-treatment methods for soil-cultured flowers

Treatment methods without leaving seeds

If you don't want to leave seeds, just cut off the remaining flowers after flowering. Be careful to cut off the flower buds 202 cm from the scape, and keep some leaves and scapes to promote the growth of bulbs. After a while, the remaining ones will wither on their own, so just clean them up in time.

Treatment methods for seed retention

If you want to leave seeds, you need to pollinate. Use a cotton swab to apply pollen to the pistil. For specific methods, please refer to: How to pollinate Amaryllis.

After pollination, you need to wait patiently and collect the seeds after the flowers fall. Repeat the remaining steps without leaving seeds.

Notice

Whether you keep the seeds or not, the method is basically the same. Pay attention to the bulb maintenance after flowering, apply some phosphorus and potassium fertilizers or organic fertilizers appropriately, apply thin fertilizers frequently, and don't apply too much at one time.

Post-processing method of hydroponic amaryllis:

Transfer to soil culture

It is very simple to grow Amaryllis in water, but the bulbs will easily shrivele and the nutrients will be exhausted, making it difficult to bloom the following year. Therefore, the water-cultured Amaryllis should be transferred to soil culture when the weather is warmer after flowering, and water and fertilizer should be applied frequently to help the bulbs recover. The water culture can continue after hibernation.

Pruning and maintenance

When the flowers of Amaryllis begin to fade, they should be pruned in time. Cut off dead branches and leaves in time, but do not damage the growing leaves. The leaves will photosynthesize and store nutrients in the rhizomes, providing nutrients for the plant to bloom in the second year.
