How to keep calla lily blooming all year round

How to keep calla lily blooming all year round

How it works

Repotting and changing soil

To make it bloom all year round, you need to provide it with a large enough growing environment.

Secondly, change to a larger pot with sufficient water and nutrients.

Secondly, turn the soil regularly. The first time is in early April, just after the flowers have faded, and the second time is after the beginning of autumn.

Finally, divide the plants depending on the situation. When the rhizomes are too dense, they must be divided, but each plant should not have more than 3 clumps. The potting soil for division should be loose and breathable with good water retention capacity. Sufficient base fertilizer should also be applied to ensure adequate nutrient supply.

Cool maintenance

During most of spring, summer and autumn, keep Calla Lily in a cool, ventilated and sunny place. Avoid direct sunlight, especially during the dog days of summer. Try to block out any light as much as possible.

During the rainy season, spray water on the ground frequently to increase humidity, and water appropriately to keep the soil moist and do not let it dry out.

Do not fertilize too frequently, apply thin liquid fertilizer every 10 to 12 days. After moving indoors in mid-October, expose it to more sunlight, pay attention to ventilation, and prevent diseases and pests.

Timely pruning

Red flowers need green leaves to match. Calla lily leaves have a short lifespan, and the flowers wither and the leaves fall off. Therefore, yellow leaves should be trimmed in time to avoid bacterial growth.

After the flowers fade, remove the remaining flowers and pedicels in time to avoid affecting the next flowering. When watering, do not spray directly on the pruned area of the plant to avoid rot and infection of the entire plant.

Keep warm and humid

The two key times for whether Calla Lily can bloom all year round are midsummer and cold winter, so special attention should be paid to its maintenance during these times.

In mid-July, move the potted plants to a well-ventilated place, preferably in the shade to avoid excessive temperatures. To prevent heatstroke and reduce temperature, you can spray water on the ground 2 to 3 times a day. The maximum daytime temperature must not exceed 30℃ to allow the plant to continue flowering.

The room temperature in winter should be between 16℃ and 18℃, and the minimum should not be lower than 8℃. Keep the room relatively humid to prevent the leaves from turning yellow. At the same time, place the plants in the sun and give them sufficient light so that they can bloom continuously during the winter.
