Winter melon cultivation methods and precautions

Winter melon cultivation methods and precautions

1. Maintenance methods

1. Temperature: The most suitable temperature for its development is around 25 degrees. When it grows into a mature plant, the temperature needs to be adjusted to 30 degrees so that its growth state is the best. Because it is not resistant to low temperatures, the temperature must be controlled during winter cultivation. If the temperature is below five degrees, the plant will be frostbitten.

2. Watering: Because of its large size, it consumes a lot of water. If there is drought, it needs to be watered appropriately, preferably every other day. If the rain is normal, drainage should also be done well.

3. Fertilization: During the growth period, it consumes a lot of nutrients, and the nutrients in the soil alone are not enough. Therefore, it is necessary to fertilize it appropriately, generally once a month. You can use a compound fertilizer with a more comprehensive fertilizer effect. When applying fertilizer, please note: Do not apply fertilizer before a heavy rain, do not apply fertilizer immediately after a heavy rain, and when applying fertilizer, do not pour the fertilizer liquid directly on the head of the plant.

4. Light: Short-day plants do not require much light, and this one is no exception. Appropriate light is beneficial to the differentiation of flower buds of the plant, but sufficient light is still needed during the growth period. Usually about five hours.

2. Breeding techniques

1. Reproduction: It can be propagated by sowing. First, soak the seeds in warm water for five minutes, and then wait for it to germinate. Wash it with warm water once a day. After a month, when its seedlings grow leaf hearts, they can be removed from the greenhouse for planting.

2. Pruning: Generally, no pruning is required.

3. Problem Diagnosis

1. Pests: When the temperature is too low and the air humidity is too high, it is easy to be infected with powdery mildew, and symptoms such as white powder will appear on the leaves. When the symptoms appear, it is necessary to use a 25% diluted solution of oxycarboxin wettable powder for spraying treatment.

2. Disease: When the temperature is above 25 degrees and rainy weather occurs frequently, the leaves will turn yellow, the branches and leaves will expand upward, and the roots and stems will turn brown. These are symptoms of infection with wilt disease and need to be sprayed with a 50% diluted solution of carbendazim wettable powder.

IV. Other issues

1. Edible: It is edible and can also be dipped into various candies.

2. Other uses: In addition to being edible, the peel and seeds can be used as medicine.
