How to cultivate Victoria regia

How to cultivate Victoria regia

1. Maintenance methods

1. Temperature: Victoria amazonica likes high temperatures and is a tropical plant, so you don’t have to worry about the high temperatures affecting it in the summer. However, its cold resistance is very poor, and the ambient temperature cannot be lower than 20 degrees, otherwise its growth will stagnate. If it is lower than 8 degrees, it will freeze to death. The water temperature should not be too low.

2. Watering: The Victoria amazonica needs to change the water in time. If the water quality is not good, it will breed bacteria, thus causing some diseases and pests. Especially in the hot summer weather, you should pay attention to changing the water frequently to ensure its normal growth and the best ornamental value. The frequency of water changes should be determined based on the specific situation.

3. Light: Victoria amazonica is a light-loving plant. If the conditions are not met, the branches and leaves of the plant will become very thin, and the leaves will be very small, and it will not be able to bloom normally.

4. Fertilization: Victoria amazonica is suitable for growing in fertile silt and is very demanding on the fertility of the soil. It needs to be supplemented with nutrients in time during the flowering period and needs to be top-dressed twice. However, no fertilizer is needed after autumn, allowing it to spend the winter normally.

2. Breeding techniques

1. Reproduction: Sowing is its main way of reproduction. Sowing usually takes place in April every year. The seeds must also be processed before sowing. The seeds need to be placed in water at about 28 degrees to germinate, and then they can be sown. They will germinate in about a week.

2. Pruning: Pruning is a step that must be taken shortly before the Victoria amazonica grows, because its branches and leaves are relatively large. If they grow too densely and there is no light transmittance, they are prone to disease. Therefore, cutting off some branches and leaves that grow too wildly can also ensure its normal viewing.

3. Problem diagnosis and treatment

1. Disease: Leaf blight will occur, mainly due to untimely water changes, and the ornamental value of the leaves will also be endangered. You can spray wettable powder or directly remove the diseased branches and leaves.

2. Pests: The fall armyworm will appear. This pest will bite the branches and leaves of the plant, making them less round, so it is necessary to use a dichlorvos solution to spray it.

IV. Other issues

1. Toxicity: It is non-toxic, so there is no need to worry about the risk of poisoning.

2. Can it be raised at home: Not suitable. It is usually raised in ponds and has a very high ornamental value.
