How to grow cactus

How to grow cactus

1. Loose soil in the pot

If you want the cactus to be thicker, you must ensure the drainage and water retention of the potting soil, which is conducive to the growth of the roots. The potting soil cannot be made entirely of river sand. It is generally necessary to mix garden soil and compost. The ratio of river sand to garden soil is equal, and the compost can be a little less. This will prevent water from accumulating and also prevent the water from being lost too quickly.

2. Water less

Cactus is very drought-tolerant because it can store a lot of water. If the environment is relatively humid, it will not deliberately store water, so the leaves will become thinner. If there is less water, it will retain water and become thicker. So don't water too frequently, just water thoroughly each time.

3. Adequate lighting

The growth of cactus cannot be separated from sufficient light. You can put it in a sunny place to receive sunlight all day long. Moreover, it is not afraid of exposure to the sun. The stronger the light, the more vigorously it grows. Long-term shade can cause the leaves to shrivel and may even die.

4. Supplement nutrients

Although cactus grows in barren deserts, it also needs nutrients. When fertilizing it, you should choose phosphorus and potassium fertilizers, and you can use bone meal and rotted animal manure. You can also use compound fertilizer to irrigate it to provide it with comprehensive nutrition.
