The difference between tiger jasmine and pearl jasmine

The difference between tiger jasmine and pearl jasmine

1. Blades

The difference between tiger jasmine and gem jasmine is first seen in the leaves.

The branches of tiger jasmine are relatively thin, and the leaves are small and round without leaf tips. Generally, single leaves grow opposite each other. If there are more leaves on some branches, the leaves may grow opposite each other.

Jasmine sambac is a shrub that can grow to about one meter tall. Although the branches are thin, they are angular and sometimes have hairs. All of them have single leaves that are opposite each other. The leaves are generally oval in shape, but can also be broadly ovate. The leaves are slightly wrinkled, with obvious veins on the leaves. The petioles are short with a slight upward arc. If you look closely at the petioles, you will find very short soft hairs.

2. Flowers

Another difference between the two is that they have different types of flowers.

A normal tiger jasmine flower has more than 50 petals, the buds are flat and round, and the flowers are relatively large, reaching more than 3 cm, but sometimes they cannot fully open. Tiger jasmine has a strong fragrance, which can be smelled even from a long distance.

In early summer, new shoots grow from the leaf axils of the Jasmine Sambac, and a cyme grows on the top. There are 3 to 9 flowers, but usually there are only three to four. The corolla is milky white and is also very fragrant. Most varieties of Jasmine have a flowering period of 6 to 10 months, from early summer to late autumn, while some are deciduous and bloom in winter, from November to March of the following year.

3. Cultivation

There are also big differences in their cultivation.

Tiger head jasmine probably has a genetic defect, which makes it more difficult to care for and propagate by cuttings than ordinary jasmine. Tiger head cannot be heavily pruned, and heavy pruning may prevent new branches from sprouting, and in severe cases, the entire branch will wither.

Jasmine sambac grows too tall and needs to be pruned frequently, but it should never be pruned when the temperature is low, as the cut ends can easily be invaded by pathogens. Even if you don't prune in winter, you should disinfect the wound in time. Under the same conditions, it is much easier to cultivate the Jasmine sambac. The branches cut off during spring pruning can be used to cultivate new plants. In comparison, the branches of the Tiger Head jasmine are more difficult to survive.

This is the difference between the two that the editor has compiled. I hope that readers can also enjoy the fragrant floral scent and have a good mood.
