Cultivation methods and precautions of lotus palm

Cultivation methods and precautions of lotus palm

1. Suitable temperature

Lotus palm prefers warm but slightly cool places. Generally, the most suitable temperature is around 20 degrees. It is afraid of cold, so it is best to keep the temperature above 6 degrees during the winter. It cannot tolerate the heat very well. When the temperature rises in summer, the plant will enter a semi-dormant stage. Therefore, we should strengthen the ventilation effect at this time, and use measures such as shading and spraying water to lower the temperature around it.

2. Proper lighting

The lotus plant prefers places with better light, so if there is not enough light, the plant will only grow in height, the color of the leaves will not look good, and it will easily cause leaf fall. But it cannot be exposed to too much sunlight, so we should provide shade from May to September, and give it more light at other times. In winter, the light is relatively weak, so the leaves will be greener, but when spring comes, the light increases, and the leaves will return to their original color.

3. Proper watering

The lotus plant prefers drier soil. Therefore, it is relatively drought-resistant, but particularly afraid of waterlogging. The amount of watering must be controlled during the golden period of growth. It is better to be a little dry than too wet. Even in spring or autumn, although the pot must be kept moist, it cannot be too wet and cannot be exposed to rain. In the summer, because it is in a dormant state, you should water it sparingly. In the winter, you can water it normally, but also in moderation.

4. Fertilization

During the growing season in spring and autumn, fertilizer should be applied basically every half a month. Nitrogen fertilizer is generally chosen. Phosphorus fertilizer should be applied in autumn so that the plant can safely survive the winter. When applying fertilizer, be sure not to splash it on the leaves, otherwise it will cause the leaves to fall off.

5. Pruning

Some types of plants are prone to die after flowering, so we need to do appropriate side pruning when it grows to prevent it from flowering.
