The difference between Daxuesu and Chunlan

The difference between Daxuesu and Chunlan: leaves

The leaves of Daxuesu and Chunlan are very similar in appearance. But there are also obvious differences.

The leaves of the snow plant are emerald green, 50-70CM long, and about 1-1.3CM wide. A snow plant can have 5 to 7 leaves, which are bow-shaped and half-hanging.

The leaves of Chunlan are similar to those of Daxuesu. They grow in clusters, and the leaves are narrow and sharp, with rough edges and fine serrations. The leaves of Chunlan are usually 4-6 pieces gathered together, 20-60cm long, a few can reach 100cm, and 0.6-1.1cm wide.

Comparing the two, it can be seen that the leaves of Daxuesu are larger and thicker.

The difference between Daxuesu and Chunlan: flowers

The flowers of Daxuesu and Chunlan are very different, which is a good distinguishing mark.

The flowers of Daxuesu and Chunlan also have three petals pointing in three directions, like a small fan. The lip is shorter than the petals and has a recurved tip. The difference is the shape and color of the petals.

The petals of the Daxuesu are milky white with light green veins. The petals are narrow and long, with a sharp tip. The main petals are straight, and the secondary petals are flat or slightly drooping. There are faint hidden red spots on the snow-white tongue, commonly known as "water stains".

The colors of the petals of spring orchids are light yellow-green, green-white, yellow-white, and sometimes light red. The petals are narrow and round, with an acute or obtuse tip, ovate-lanceolate and slightly curved. There is a purple-brown stripe at the base of the midrib.

The genus Snowdrop has multiple flowers on one stem, with at least 3 and up to 7 flowers. However, when the spring orchid blooms, the flowers are solitary, and rarely there will be 2 flowers.

Other differences between Daxuesu and Chunlan

In addition to some differences in external appearance, Daxuesu and Chunlan also differ in growth habits and cultivation methods. In general, the cultivation of Daxuesu is similar to that of Chunlan, but the requirements are higher.
