How to reproduce the water lily

Seed propagation of Nuggetia

The seeds harvested and stored in the previous year are artificially germinated in the spring of the second year. The sowing soil should be clear soil with a pH between 6.5 and 7.0. Add fertilizer (rotted sesame cake, bean cake, etc.) and mix evenly. Soak in water for 3 to 5 days (it is best to sprinkle a layer of sand on the surface of the mud), then add water 3 to 5 cm deep, and after the water becomes clear, sprinkle the germinated seeds in it. Add and change water in time according to the growth status of the seedlings, and transplant them only when the seedlings grow small foliage (floating leaves).

When transplanting water chestnuts, the row spacing should be 10 cm and the plant spacing should be 15 to 20 cm, and management should be strengthened during the seedling stage. The plant can be transplanted only when it grows 4 to 6 floating leaves (more than 8 cm wide). The planting method is one plant per pot (1 plant/square meter). If it is planted in a large ornamental area and the soil is fertile, the planting can be done at 1 plant every 2 meters. The storage temperature of Nuggetia truncatula seeds is better when stored at 3-5℃, and the germination rate reaches more than 80% the following year.

Propagation of Nivea by division

Asexual reproduction is by underground stems and division. Reproduction is carried out in March and April. The tubers with main buds are cut into 6-8 cm long, and the side buds are cut into 3-4 cm long as breeding materials. Propagation by division is carried out from May to June. The tubers with the main buds are cut into 6 to 8 cm long. Then the yellow leaves and some old leaves are removed, and some adventitious roots are retained for planting. The plants propagated by division will quickly enter the growth stage under the condition of sufficient nutrients, that is, they can bloom and bear fruit in the same year.
