Is avocado a fruit? What does an avocado look like?

1. Is it a fruit?

Avocado is a fruit. Its scientific name is alligator pear, and it is the fruit of the plant genus Persea gratis of the Lauraceae family. This plant is native to tropical America and is cultivated in some coastal areas in southern my country. This fruit has high edible value and contains a variety of nutrients. It is a very good food for all kinds of people and can also play a health-care role.

2. Plant Introduction

1. Morphological characteristics: Avocado is an evergreen tree, about 10 meters in height, with gray-green bark, alternate leaves, mostly oblong in shape, 8-20 cm in length, and a relatively sharp tip. Its flowers are panicles, usually growing on the lower part of the twigs. The flowers are green with yellow, and the pedicels have yellowish-brown soft hairs. The fruit is oval in shape, yellow-green or reddish-brown in color, and usually matures in August or September.

2. Growth habits: Avocado generally grows in tropical areas, with annual precipitation reaching more than 1,000 mm. If it is too dry, it will affect its growth. This plant has shallow roots, fragile branches and poor wind resistance, so it generally grows in sheltered, sunny places. It has a wide adaptability to soil and the soil depth must be more than 1 meter. Good drainage and air permeability are helpful for root breathing and plant growth.

3. Maintenance method: Avocado is a light-loving plant. It needs sufficient light to grow. A too dark environment will cause it to grow too tall, which is not conducive to flowering and fruiting. In daily maintenance, water the plant frequently to keep the soil moist. Dry climate can easily lead to fruit drop. In terms of fertilizer, in addition to applying base fertilizer during planting, appropriate topdressing is needed during the growth period. Generally, nutrients are supplemented before flowering, after fruiting, and during the fruit expansion period.
