Cyclamen is a flower that many people like. Its colors are bright and diverse, and it has high ornamental value. Many people have potted plants in their homes. So when is the best month to plant cyclamen seeds ? Let’s learn more about it below. Which month is suitable for planting cyclamen seeds? Although cyclamen can be sown all year round, it is best to sow it in spring or autumn. The best time to sow cyclamen seeds in autumn is around September. In spring, you can choose March to April for sowing. How to plant cyclamen seeds 1. Seed treatment Before sowing cyclamen seeds, soak them in warm water for 2 hours, clean off the sticky substances on them, wrap them with a wet cloth, keep the temperature at around 20℃, and then take them out for sowing. 2. Matrix selection Cyclamen seeds can be planted in clean sandy soil, which can be disinfected before use. Use a watering can to wet the sand, sow the seeds, cover with a thin layer of soil, cover the flowerpot with a film, and place it in an environment with a temperature of about 20℃. If the substrate is dry during this period, you can use the pot immersion method to keep it moist. It will sprout in about 20 days. 3. Transplanting Cyclamen seedlings can be transplanted when their leaves unfold. You can first move them into a small flowerpot. Use sand as the transplanting medium and keep it moist. When the seedlings grow three leaves and the bulbs grow to 5 or 6 mm in diameter, they can be placed in soil and maintained normally. 4. Watering and fertilizing When watering cyclamen, the principle should be "water when dry, and neither too dry nor too waterlogged". When watering, do not water the flower buds and leaves, and do not pour water directly from the center of the plant, otherwise it will easily lead to bacterial infection and rot. During the growing season, fertilize the cyclamen once every 10 days or so. When the flower stalks emerge, apply phosphorus and potassium fertilizers once every half a month. Apply small amounts of fertilizer frequently. 5. Temperature and light Cyclamen prefers a cool growing environment, and the suitable growth temperature is 15~20 degrees. If the temperature exceeds 30 degrees in summer, the bulbs will go dormant. If the temperature is below 5 degrees in winter, the bulbs will be frostbitten. Therefore, when growing cyclamen in northern regions, it is better to keep them in a warm place indoors in winter. Cyclamen likes light but is not shade-tolerant. When there is insufficient light, the leaves will grow too long and turn yellow, the flower color will be irregular, and the buds will easily wither. 6. Pruning and maintenance When cyclamen flowers fade, it is advisable to cut off the dead flowers and leaves in time. If necessary, you can also prune the cyclamen to make it more dense and dense to facilitate ventilation, air permeability and light transmission of the cyclamen, and accumulate energy for the next flowering. 7. Environmental ventilation The environment for maintaining cyclamen needs ventilation. Poor ventilation can easily cause the flowers and leaves of cyclamen to wilt, and can also easily cause waterlogging and rotten bulbs. Do not change the pot or soil of the newly purchased cyclamen immediately, as this can easily cause the flowers to wither prematurely. Allow the cyclamen to adapt to the new growing environment, and only change the pot or soil after the flowers have withered. That’s it |
