How to take care of the newly bought climbing roses

How to take care of the newly bought climbing roses

1. Soil

Climbing roses prefer fertile, loose and breathable soil. If the soil quality is too poor when you buy it, or if problems such as soil compaction occur, you need to change the soil. You can choose peat soil, and mixing it with leaf mold will make it more suitable for its soil requirements. When repotting, try to keep part of the soil ball with you. Do not shake off all the soil, as this may damage the roots and make it difficult for the plant to survive.

2. Environment

When you first buy it, you need to give it a comfortable environment. An environment with good ventilation and suitable temperature is more conducive to its growth. If you raise it at home, you must give it some climbing space and sufficient sunlight is also essential. It is best to spend the winter at home and provide appropriate shade in the summer.

3. Watering

Do not water before repotting. If the soil is too dry, water less. Once it has acclimated, water it as soon as the soil begins to dry out. When watering, make sure to water thoroughly and ensure good drainage at the bottom to avoid stagnant water to avoid root rot.

4. Fertilization

Do not apply fertilizer right after repotting, as applying fertilizer too early will burn its roots. If you want to add some base fertilizer, it is best to add it at the bottom or around where the roots cannot be touched. Generally, it is enough to use some compound fertilizer after pruning and before flowering.

5. Pruning

It is necessary to prune it in time. Pruning can control the shape and branching. Good pruning can make the flowers bloom fuller and denser. Prune after flowering and in early autumn to remove excess, overlong branches and allow it to grow more branches.
