How to grow pumpkin on the balcony

How to grow pumpkin on the balcony

1. Seedling cultivation

Spot sowing method: dig holes in the flowerpot and put 2 to 3 seeds in each hole. Note that the tips of the seeds should face downwards when placing them. The thickness of the soil covering it should be 2-3 cm. When watering, try to water thoroughly and be careful not to wash out the seeds. When the surrounding environment is 20 to 30 degrees, it will sprout in about half a month. Soak the seeds in warm water before sowing to help them germinate. When each seedling has 3 to 5 leaves, it can be transplanted. It is best to transplant on a sunny afternoon and choose healthy seedlings for transplanting. Plant one seedling per pot. After transplanting, the soil can cover the leaves and water the soil thoroughly.

2. Daily management

About 10 days after transplanting, you can apply organic fertilizer, with nitrogen fertilizer as the main fertilizer. After the pumpkin seedlings start to climb, they will grow very fast. At this time, you can build a frame. When they grow about 9 leaves, you can top them once.

When the vines start to grow around the pot, they can be manually guided to the racks.

When the flower enters its flowering period, the first flowers to bloom are male flowers, which can be picked and eaten. When the female flowers bloom, it is necessary to apply decomposed organic fertilizer mainly composed of phosphorus and potassium fertilizers.

When the pumpkin seedlings are growing, pay attention to the amount and frequency of watering. If you find branches and leaves with diseases and insect pests, cut them off as soon as possible and keep ventilation.

3. Harvest

Pumpkins can be picked 10 to 15 days after the flowers bloom, when they are still very tender. If you want a harder-skinned pumpkin, you can pick it later.
