Diseases and Pests of Asparagus and Their Control

Pests of Asparagus cochinchinensis and their control

Asparagus may be harmed by red spider mites during its growth process. Red spider mites mainly eat the leaves of Asparagus. Red spider mites are most likely to appear in May and June of the year, so you must pay attention to the leaves of Asparagus in May and June to see if there are any red spider mites.

So how do we prevent and control red spider mites? First of all, we must do a good job of prevention and control in winter. Clean up the fallen branches and leaves of Asparagus in winter. They can be buried deep or burned. If you grow it at home, just clean up the dead leaves and throw them away. When we find red spider mites on the leaves of Asparagus, we can use more effective insecticides, dilute them according to the instructions, and spray them regularly to effectively kill the red spider mites.

Asparagus also attracts aphids, which mainly eat the tender shoots and vines of Asparagus. Severe aphid infestation can cause the vines of Asparagus to shrink. If aphid infestation is discovered in the early stages, pesticides can be used to kill the aphids. However, once the aphid infestation is very serious, we must directly cut off the vines that are infested with aphids and apply some fertilizer at the same time. In this way, new vines will grow in about 20 days.

Diseases of Asparagus cochinchinensis and their control

The disease that Asparagus is most likely to suffer from is root rot. Root rot occurs from the roots and is not easy to detect in time. Root rot develops from the tip of the root gradually to the inside. Eventually the entire root will rot and the inside will become a paste. The main reason why asparagus root rot occurs is that the soil is too moist or the roots are bitten by pests. It may also be caused by damage during soil cultivation and fertilization. Therefore, when we plant asparagus in daily life, we must pay attention to drainage and sprinkle quicklime powder around the asparagus plants with root rot. This can have a bactericidal effect and treat root rot.
