Schefflera pests and control methods

Schefflera pests and control methods

Round Shield Scale

The round shield scale is the main pest of Schefflera chinensis. It can occur repeatedly 2 to 3 times indoors and many plants are its targets. It usually parasitizes on the back of leaves, and in severe cases causes the leaves to lose green color and fall off, affecting the appearance. The prevention and treatment methods are as follows:

Observe the back of the leaves regularly and remove any pests and diseases promptly. Be careful not to cause mechanical damage to the leaves, which will aggravate the damage caused by pests.

If Schefflera is infested with round shield scale, households can choose to use soil-buried insecticides. 1 gram per pot, buried about 2 cm in the soil.

April to May and September to October are the peak periods for nymph hatching. During this period, spraying 1000 times of 40% oxydemeton-methyl emulsifiable concentrate once every week for 2-3 times in a row can effectively prevent insect pests.

Leafminer

Leaf miners appear and mainly feed on leaves. In severe cases, the leaves become shaped like webs.

When Schefflera is diseased, you can use 3000-4000 times solution of Dimethoate Emulsion for spraying. (Folin emulsifiable concentrate, cypermethrin, dimethoate aqueous solution, etc., these agents can be purchased in the flower market.) When spraying pesticides for prevention and control, pay attention to rotating the application of different types of pesticides to prevent pests and diseases from developing drug resistance.

Red spider mites, thrips

Red spider mites and thrips are also common diseases of Schefflera.

When the disease occurs, 3000 times diluted 10% permethrin emulsifiable concentrate can be used for spraying.
