How to propagate purple bamboo

How to propagate purple bamboo

Reproduction method

Its method is somewhat different from that of other plants. It is carried out by directly transplanting the mother bamboo or by burying the whip roots.

Specific operations

First of all, we should choose a good seedbed, which requires the soil to be fertile, loose and well-drained. Then, deep-turn them. Afterwards, disinfection is carried out using (KMnO4) solution.

Then, it’s time to choose the materials. Generally speaking, even the same mother bamboo has different developmental conditions. For example, the top branch is better, but it is very short and has a small diameter, which means it stores less nutrients, so it is best not to choose it. The bottom part does not receive enough light, so it is relatively thin and cannot be selected. Only the middle part is very well developed and contains more nutrients, so the success rate after transplantation is high, so this is the part we should choose.

After the previous step, it is time for further processing. We will choose to keep only one complete node, and then some strong branches and buds. Generally speaking, it is enough to keep a part above and below the bamboo node.

After the previous step, our materials have been selected. The next step is to soak them in the rooting powder solution for about half an hour, and then take them out. After that, the implantation will officially begin.

Post-management issues

Of course, it doesn’t mean we can just ignore it after burying it. The subsequent management work is also very important. In fact, there are many factors that need to be controlled. For example, watering is definitely an essential step. Also, the temperature should be controlled between 20 and 32 degrees Celsius. In addition, the relative humidity range must be between 75 and 95 percent.
