Sunflowers have won the favor of many flower lovers with their gorgeous flowers and diverse colors. Many people like to plant sunflowers in pots at their doorsteps or in their courtyards to decorate their living space. If you want to maintain sunflowers for a long time, choosing a perennial variety is an ideal choice. So how do you grow sunflowers so that they bloom and fill the pot? 1. Seed propagation Sunflowers can be easily propagated by seeds. As long as the ambient temperature remains above 15 degrees Celsius, sow the seeds on the soil surface and lightly cover the soil to keep it moist, they will germinate in about 7 to 10 days. Under suitable maintenance conditions, it will bloom in about a month and this growth cycle can be maintained even in summer. 2. Cutting propagation Another method of propagation is by cuttings. Cut branches about 10 cm long from mature sunflower plants, wait for the wounds to dry and insert them into the soil. They will soon take root and bloom quickly. 3. Ground planting and potted planting If the sunflowers are planted directly in the ground, because the ground space is large and there is sufficient nutrients, the plants will thrive as long as they are guaranteed sufficient light and appropriate water. If you choose potted plants, you need to use fertile and loose soil. You can buy special nutrient soil, or mix it yourself with leaf mold and river sand in a 1:1 ratio to ensure good air permeability and drainage. 4. Light and moisture Sunflowers need sufficient light and should be guaranteed to receive enough sunlight even in summer. At the same time, pay attention to keeping the soil moist. Once the soil surface is dry, water it immediately to meet the plant's water needs and avoid leaf withering. 5. Reasonable fertilization For home-grown sunflowers, you can use multi-element water-soluble fertilizer and apply it 2 to 3 times a month. If you want the plant to bloom more, you can choose water-soluble fertilizers with high phosphorus and potassium content and other elements, and apply them 2 to 3 times a month to promote continued growth and flowering of the plant. 6. Pruning and lateral growth During the seedling stage, regular pruning can promote the formation of side branches. The more side branches there are, the more flowers will bloom in the future, making the plant's appearance fuller and improving its ornamental value. In short, as long as everyone does a few key points, even a novice can successfully cultivate beautiful and vibrant sunflowers.
