How to take cuttings of Begonia

How to take cuttings of Begonia

1. Cutting time

There are not many restrictions on the time for taking cuttings of Begonia. As long as the temperature is suitable, it can be taken all year round. It is best to choose spring and autumn for cuttings, when the temperature is suitable, the growth is rapid, and the survival rate is relatively high.

2. Cutting cuttings

Choose a vigorously growing Rieger Begonia plant and cut off the strong leaves with petioles from the plant. It needs to be at least one year old and free of diseases and pests. Suitable leaves can increase the survival rate of cuttings. After cutting the leaves, you need to process them. Cut the petiole part obliquely, then prepare the rooting water solution, dip the petiole in the rooting water for a while, put it in a cool and ventilated place, and let the cut part of the leaf dry naturally.

3. Preparation of matrix

Preparation of the substrate is also an important step in cuttings. The substrate should be loose, breathable and contain nutrients. It can be mixed with garden soil, leaf mold and vermiculite, which is suitable for cuttings. After preparation, it must be disinfected and sterilized before being used for cuttings.

4. Take cuttings

Insert the processed leaves into the substrate, not too deep. Gently compact the surrounding soil to keep the soil moist. Then place it in a cool and ventilated place, provide soft scattered light, keep the temperature at around 15-20 degrees Celsius, and spray water regularly to promote leaf rooting.
