Pruning after flowering

After the flowers fade, the flower stalks must be cut off, because leaving them will consume the nutrients of the Clivia plant and make it difficult to produce seeds. When cutting, start one inch away from the root. Juice will flow out after cutting. Absorb it with toilet paper, and then apply some wood ash or carbendazim.

If you want to collect Clivia seeds, you can wait for it to slowly wither and fall off after pollination, or pull it out after collecting the seeds.

Watering after flowering

After the flowers fade, if the soil in the pot is still moist, do not water it. Wait until the soil 2 to 3 cm above the surface of the pot is dry before watering it thoroughly. Be careful not to overwater.

Note: If the temperature is below 30℃, you can add a little liquid fertilizer when watering, the effect will be better.

Repotting and changing soil after flowering

Generally speaking, it is best to turn the pot after the Clivia blooms every year, because a large amount of nutrients and trace elements in the potting soil are consumed during the flowering period. If the original soil is used again, it will easily lead to insufficient fertility and trace elements.

1. Preparation: Mix leaf mold, pine needles, river sand, and charcoal residue in a ratio of 5:2:2:1 and stir evenly. Also prepare solid fertilizers such as large and small sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, and fried or fermented bone meal, bean cake fertilizer, etc. for later use.

2. Do not water within 5 to 15 days before repotting so that the soil in the pot can separate from the pot wall. The exact amount of time depends on the circumstances.

3. Remove the Clivia from the pot, shake off the old soil, and cut off the rotten or shriveled roots.

4. Fill some soil into a new flowerpot that is larger than the original one, then add a layer of roasted sesame seeds, melon seeds, or other base fertilizers, cover it with soil and plant the Clivia.

5. Do not water the plant immediately after potting it. Wait 2 to 3 days before watering it again to avoid infection of the root wounds. Place it in a cool and ventilated place for a few days to slow down the potting process, and then place it on a glass windowsill or balcony.

Leaf care after flowering

After the Clivia flowers fade, admiring the leaves is also a good choice. Therefore, you must pay attention to the cleanliness of the leaves after the flowers bloom. For example, you can wipe the leaves with beer that has been diluted ten times. Otherwise, the leaves will be covered with a thick layer of dust, which will make people feel annoyed when looking at them.

Rotate the pot of the Clivia every week to prevent the leaves from growing crooked.

Fertilize after flowering

If you don't want to repot your Clivia, you can choose to apply topdressing to it once every 15 to 20 days. The fertilizers you can use include bone meal, fried sesame seeds, cooked soybeans, compound fertilizers, and homemade flower fertilizers that have been fully decomposed. Pay attention to the balance of the three elements of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium.

Remember to apply fertilizer frequently in small amounts. It is better to use less fertilizer to avoid burning the seedlings!

Post-flowering light

Clivia likes diffuse light and is afraid of direct sunlight. After flowering, lower the temperature appropriately, avoid strong light exposure, and keep the indoor ventilation good to extend the time for enjoying the flowers.

However, before it blooms every year, the Clivia should be placed in a place with good lighting, as sunlight is beneficial to the development of flower buds.
