Precautions for repotting jasmine in winter

Precautions for repotting jasmine in winter

1. Time to change pots

The best time to repot jasmine is in late winter. The cold weather causes jasmine to be dormant. Repotting at this time will not cause dehydration, and it is not easy to be infected by various diseases and pests. The survival rate is higher than usual.

2. Pruning and root cutting

Before repotting, trim the branches, leaves and roots of the jasmine. The branches of the previous year should be cut to within 10 cm. At the same time, diseased branches, dead branches and overly dense branches should be cut off. These branches will waste nutrients and affect ventilation. In addition, pruning is also helpful for spring sprouting, which can produce more new branches and flower buds. For the roots, the main thing is to prune away rotten roots. In addition, the healthy roots should also be cut shorter to promote the growth of new roots.

3. Pot soil preparation

When repotting, add new potting soil and base fertilizer. First, place tiles at the bottom of the pot to help with drainage. Then use crushed eggshells as base fertilizer, which is rich in nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, which helps subsequent growth. Then spread a layer of garden soil, and after planting the flowers in the new pot, fill in the soil and compact it. This will help the jasmine adapt to the new pot and new soil as soon as possible.

4. Moisturizing and keeping warm

Pay attention to moisturizing and keeping warm after repotting. Move the flower pot to a ventilated sunny place and ensure sufficient light every day. In addition, you should water the leaves from time to time to maintain air humidity, but it is not advisable to water it overwatering, as watering in winter can easily cause frostbite to the roots.
