How to grow passion fruit in spring

How to grow passion fruit in spring

1. Planting

Passion fruit sown in spring grows very fast. After planting, supports need to be erected so that the main vine can reach the trellis. When the main vine grows to about one meter in length, the top bud should be cut off to stimulate it to grow side vines, leaving only two side vines on each side. When the length of the side vine grows to two meters, the top should be cut off.

2. Arrange moisture

The water consumption during the growth period is very high and needs to be managed reasonably. It is drought-resistant but not water-tolerant, but too dry soil will affect its growth. Generally, it is watered once or twice a week. In late spring, when the temperature rises quickly, it is necessary to increase the amount of watering to prevent the branches from drying out.

3. Increase fertilization

Fertilizer consumption is severe in spring, and the nutrients in the soil alone are far from enough, so fertilization is needed to meet its needs. The principle of fertilizing is to use light nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium in a ratio of 2:1:4. Do not use too much nitrogen fertilizer. Use it once a week. During this period, you can increase the proportion of potassium fertilizer. Potassium fertilizer can promote the maturation of flower buds and bear fruit sooner.

4. Increase Lighting

It is necessary to increase the amount of light in the spring to promote branch growth and nutrient accumulation. If the light cannot meet the demand, the branches will grow slowly and become too long. It is a long-day plant. Ensuring more than twelve hours of light a day can promote the formation of flower buds, especially after planting in early spring. More sunlight can ensure continuous flowering in summer.
