How to plant sorghum and when is the best time to plant it?

The best time to plant sorghum

The planting time of sorghum can be from mid-March to late June. Generally speaking, it can be sown when the soil temperature is stable above 12℃.

Generally, its growing period is about 100 to 120 days. The early-maturing ones mature in early July, and the late-maturing ones mature in mid-October.

Sorghum planting methods and key points

1. Soil

Sorghum can be grown in any type of soil. If you want high yields, you can choose loose, well-drained loam or sandy soil. The land for planting sorghum should be deep plowed 1-2 times before the New Year, and weeds in the field should be eliminated. Repeated deep plowing is required to crush the soil clods and make the ground more level.

2. Fertilization

The cultivation of sorghum requires a large amount of fertilization. Deep plowing is needed before sowing, and decomposed fertilizer should be applied to each acre of sorghum field. When sowing, seed fertilizer should be applied. At the same time, the planting depth of sorghum should be 3 to 5 centimeters. The depth should be deep when the soil is dry and shallow when the soil is wet, so that the soil and seeds can have better contact, which is conducive to germination.

Key points for daily management of sorghum

In the later stage of sorghum planting, we need to regularly check the fields for seedling supplement, thinning and finalization. At the same time, we need to weed in time, ensure the normal growth of roots and leaves, prevent premature aging, irrigate and fertilize reasonably, and spray growth regulators to promote ripening, so that sorghum can grow better.
