How to prepare soil for cactus? Nutritional soil formula and preparation method

Cactus suitable soil requirements

Cactus is very tolerant to barrenness, so ordinary soil can be used for cultivation, but it is best to ensure strong drainage because it is afraid of waterlogging. If it is in an area with heavy rainfall, use more sandy soil to increase drainage. There must not be waterlogging, otherwise the roots will easily rot.

Cactus soil preparation method

1. Leaf mold + garden soil + perlite

Cactus does not have high requirements for soil. If you prepare it yourself, you can mix leaf mold, sand, perlite, and gravel in a ratio of 5:2:2:1. This kind of soil has good air permeability and drainage, which can make the cactus grow more vigorously.

2. Grass soil + garden soil + yellow sand + perlite

The soil for cactus can be mixed with plant soil, garden soil, yellow sand and perlite in the ratio of 4:4:1:1. This will make the soil more breathable and have better drainage, allowing the cactus to grow more vigorously.

Steps for changing the soil of cactus

1. Time to change the soil: Cactus needs to change the soil in spring every year. The purpose of changing the soil is to ensure that the plant has sufficient nutrients and avoid the occurrence of soil compaction. When the plant has root rot, the soil also needs to be changed.

2. Preparation work: When changing the soil of a cactus, you need to prepare soil with good permeability and sufficient nutrients in advance. In addition, you need to water it once a week in advance to prevent the soil from being too dry, which will cause damage to the roots when the plant is taken out and affect the growth of the plant.

3. Cut the roots and plant them in pots: After taking out the cactus, trim the old, weak and sick roots, then disinfect the wounds and place them in a ventilated place. After the wounds are dry, you can replant them in new potting soil, compact the soil slightly, and water them thoroughly.
