How to care for Qilin in winter

How to care for Qilin in winter

Is Qilin afraid of cold?

Kirin is afraid of freezing, and the suitable growth temperature is between 22-28 degrees. The maintenance temperature in winter cannot be lower than 6 degrees, otherwise it is easy to be frostbite. In winter, Kirin is required to be placed in a sunny room, and the indoor temperature should be kept above 15°C. Watering should be restrained during dormancy, and the soil in the pot should be kept slightly moist.

Kirin winter care method

Warming and frost prevention: Kirin has poor cold resistance. When caring for it in winter, it is necessary to control the temperature in time. The minimum temperature should be kept above 10 degrees. If conditions permit, it is best to control the temperature above 15 degrees, so that it can survive the winter better. If the temperature in the area is too low and there is no heating, you can use a larger plastic bag to cover the plant, which can keep it warm and windproof.

Get more sun: Kylin palm itself loves the sun very much. In winter, it must be allowed to get more sun. It is best if it can see light all day. Getting more sun can not only promote it to carry out photosynthesis, but also increase the surrounding temperature and improve its cold resistance, which is very helpful for it to survive the winter smoothly.

Strict water control: In winter, water evaporates slowly in low temperatures, and the growth rate is also slow, so strict water control is required. It is best to keep the pot soil slightly dry, and do not water it unless it is dry. Do not water it thoroughly when you do, to avoid root rot caused by failure to absorb the water. In addition, watering should be done at noon on a sunny day, and water should be collected in advance so that the water temperature is close to the room temperature, to avoid low temperatures stimulating the root system. Generally, watering once or twice throughout the winter is sufficient.

Things to note when breeding kirin in winter

Kirin needs to be provided with sufficient light in winter, and watering should be less than usual. Control the amount of water to avoid water accumulation. In addition, do not fertilize Kirin, otherwise the fertilizer will accumulate in the second year and harm the roots.
