Where do taro seeds come from?

Taro is an asexually propagated crop. Because in the long-term planting process, through practice, asexual reproduction can maintain excellent traits better than sexual reproduction, so its seeds are not needed. In fact, taro has seeds, but its tubers have been used as seeds for a long time, which has caused mutations.

How to save taro seeds

Keep the place where the growth is good and uniform, and keep the healthy taro as seed plants. Bury them in the soil in winter and do not dig them out. The above-ground parts will slowly turn yellow and wither in winter. Dig them out in the spring of the following year, choose a sunny day with good weather, and dry them in the sun before planting them as bulbs.

Taro seeds planting

1. Growth process

After sowing, taro grows slowly and requires little fertilizer in the seedling stage. It mainly relies on the nutrients stored in the taro seeds themselves for growth. After that, it grows vigorously and has a large demand for fertilizer. It is necessary to apply decomposed livestock and poultry manure or cake fertilizer in time, and apply phosphorus and potassium fertilizers in appropriate amounts to promote the enlargement of the bulb. It can also accumulate more starch, and it is necessary to weed, cultivate the soil, and water.

2. Sowing time

Taro seeds are suitable for planting around the Qingming Festival, which is early April. The temperature is suitable at this time, the air humidity is high, and the survival rate of planting is high.

3. Planting method

Taro likes a warm environment, and the suitable growth temperature is around 25 degrees. It will grow poorly if the temperature is higher than 35 degrees or lower than 10 degrees. It is suitable to be planted in sandy soils such as sandy yellow soil with good drainage conditions, and fully decomposed organic fertilizer can be applied.

Taro can be sown in the open field from the Waking of Insects to the Spring Equinox. If covered with a film, it can be sown at the Beginning of Spring. Human and animal manure can be applied 1-2 times during the seedling stage to promote the growth of seedlings. In July, compound fertilizer should be applied according to the growth of the plants to maintain soil moisture. Drainage should be done well in the rainy season, and weeding should be done in time.
