How to breed Luna Lotus

How to breed Luna Lotus

1. Leaf cuttings

Leaf cuttings are best started in spring. Before leaf cuttings, you must first clean the soil on the surface of the Luna lily and pick the leaves off the plant. Choosing complete and healthy leaves is an important prerequisite for successful reproduction. Choose a warm day and place the picked fleshy leaves in the sun for about two hours to allow the wounds to heal themselves. Finally, place it in a ventilated place with scattered light for three to seven days, then you can put it in a pot. The flower soil should be made of wood ash and vermiculite which is conducive to the rooting of seedlings. The leaves can be placed flat or inserted into the soil. Be careful to keep the humidity of the potting soil moderate. If it is too wet, the leaves will easily rot, and if it is too dry, no roots will grow. It is best to choose a shallow and wide square pot for the flowerpot. After placing it, place the whole pot in a ventilated and bright place. One week before germination, spray water every three days to ensure appropriate moisture content in the soil. After half a month, slightly moistening the upper layer of vermiculite with water can speed up the rooting process. It is not suitable to transplant seedlings in summer, it is generally more suitable to transplant them in autumn.

2. Beheading

Also choose to start in spring and select healthy plants for preparation. Find a slightly hardened spot on the Luna plant and cut it. If there are any leaves left on the remaining mother plant, it can continue to grow. Point the knife at the stem of the plant and slowly push the knife through to cut the stem. After the "beheading" is completed, the plant head is left naturally to allow the cut to heal itself. Still use wood ash and vermiculite as potting soil, put it in the flowerpot, dig a hole in the middle, put the cut plant head in the hole, and let it take root naturally. The cut bottom plants are also allowed to dry naturally. When the leaves become a little soft, they are placed on moistened soil to take root naturally. Finally, put the rooted plant head and base into the pot. Be careful not to water too much in the early stages to prevent the leaves from rotting and turning yellow.
