Amaryllis is a popular plant among bulbous flowers , especially the double-petaled varieties, whose flowers are even more beautiful. This flower is easy to maintain, so it has won the favor of many flower lovers. However, in the maintenance process of Amaryllis, timely turning the soil and changing the pot are indispensable. Let’s learn together about the time and method of repotting Amaryllis. 1. Time to change pots The flowering period of Amaryllis is usually in summer every year, and in most cases, it only blooms once a year. Although it is possible to flower twice a year under good maintenance conditions, this is uncommon and requires more effort. I suggest giving Amaryllis an appropriate rest period and not pursuing year-round flowering. Place it in an environment of 5-15 degrees to dormant for about 2 months, so that it will bloom fuller and more colorful flowers next year. The best time to repot Amaryllis is during its dormant period, which is from January to February each year. At this time, the bulbs are in a dormant state and repotting will not affect their growth. If you repot the amaryllis during this period, it will have enough time to dormant. When spring comes and the bulbs enter the growing season, they will bloom and grow leaves. However, for this kind of flower that only blooms once a year, you should avoid the flowering period and the period of vigorous growth when repotting it to avoid damaging the root system and affecting flowering. 2. Repotting Method First, choose a new pot that is one size larger than the original pot and lay a layer of gravel or expanded clay at the bottom to enhance drainage and prevent water accumulation. Next, prepare some loose, fertile, breathable and well-drained soil, preferably containing humus, and then spread a layer of this soil on the gravel or expanded clay. Gently remove the amaryllis from its old pot, pat off the old soil attached to the roots, and use scissors to trim off old roots, dry leaves, and any damaged parts. Place the amaryllis in its new pot and fill in new soil around it, making sure the bulb is slightly above the soil surface, neither too deep nor too shallow. Sprinkle an appropriate amount of compound fertilizer or organic fertilizer on the soil surface and press lightly to blend it with the soil. Water thoroughly, then place the amaryllis in a well-ventilated place away from direct sunlight for about a week. After the roots have adapted to the new environment, move it to a sunny place for continued maintenance. This way, the amaryllis will thrive and bloom beautifully in its new home. When caring for Amaryllis, you also need to pay attention to choosing loose, fertile and well-drained soil. You can use a mixture of leaf mold and sandy soil. Amaryllis likes a warm environment, and the most suitable growth temperature is 18-22 degrees. The temperature should be kept above 5 degrees in winter to prevent frostbite.
