What soil is best for bougainvillea?

What soil is best for bougainvillea?

1. What kind of soil to use

Generally speaking, it is suitable for many types of soil, but it is best not to use garden soil because it is not very breathable and drains poorly, and it is not very resistant to pathogens and weeds. But don't use all peat. Although it is lighter, it is not easy to get wet and it is not easy to become compact.

If you make it yourself, to keep the pH value at 6-6.5, you can use peat and vermiculite. If you are more casual, you just need to make sure the soil is loose and breathable. However, please note that if the soil is very sticky, or highly alkaline, or easily affected by waterlogging, it will be bad for its growth and it will easily cause its roots to rot and die.

2. Pay attention to soil use

It likes fertilizer, and the soil must have sufficient fertility. You can mix it yourself with local materials, mixing it with rotten leaves and soil. Do not use fresh leaves. You can also add coal slag, which is relatively light. Crush it and mix it evenly in the soil.

You don’t have to add sand, as its drainage effect is not as good as coal slag, and it will become hardened over time. Finally, you can add some ash from burnt grass. It contains potassium, which can make the branches stronger and the roots more powerful.

3. Appropriate topdressing

It doesn't mean you don't need to apply fertilizer after preparing nutritious soil. When it grows, it needs to be given appropriate fertilizer to meet its needs. The fertilizer must be decomposed first, and it should be added many times, and the dosage should be light, otherwise it will easily damage the roots. Starting from May, you need to add cake fertilizer every fifteen days to help its branches grow. If it is a hot season, you need to add some calcium phosphate every fifteen to twenty days. After September, add a little nitrogen fertilizer and you can add charcoal to help its flowers become more beautiful.
