How to care for magnolia during its flowering period

How to care for magnolia during its flowering period

1. Appropriate pinching before flowering

During the maintenance period, it is necessary to regularly pinch and pluck leaves appropriately to facilitate growth, but the prerequisite is to ensure that the timing is appropriate. Generally, we will take it out of the house during the period from the Spring Equinox to the Qingming Festival every year. When taking it out of the house, we must consider the weather, and cloudy or overcast days are best.

After that, give it 2 to 3 days to adapt to the external environment. Then you can start picking its leaves. Generally, you just need to remove the old leaves of the plant and leave a few young leaves to promote the sprouting of new shoots. After that, continue to pick the leaves after each batch of flowers bloom to promote the growth of more new branches and flower buds. In addition, pinching is also necessary to control the crazy growth at the top and facilitate the sprouting of more side branches.

2. Nutrition should be sufficient

During the flowering period, nutrients are particularly important to it. It usually likes fertilizer, perhaps because it has a long flowering period and blooms many flowers. Therefore, it is necessary to replenish it with nutrients in time so that the flowers can bloom more and larger and smell more pleasant. Usually, enough basal fertilizer is applied when potting to meet the initial nutritional needs. In addition, during the flowering period, organic fertilizer rich in phosphorus and potassium should be added every 5 to 7 days. When applying fertilizer, follow the principle of light fertilizer first and then heavy fertilizer. Never apply raw fertilizer, otherwise the roots will be burned. In addition, apply fertilizer to the roots every 7 to 10 days to ensure more adequate nutrition.

3. Water appropriately

Its roots are fleshy roots, which like water very much but are afraid of stagnant water. Therefore, when summer just arrives, you can water it once a day to keep the soil slightly moist. However, when it comes to the middle of summer, you need to water the plant once in the morning and once in the evening, and sprinkle water on the leaves and around the pot to lower the air temperature.

4. Suitable lighting

Light is very important during the flowering period. In addition, since it is a light-loving flower, it is necessary to ensure sufficient light during this period, and the daily light time should not be less than 6 hours. If you put it in a cool place, it will only grow leaves but no flowers, or very few flowers. Only when the temperature is high in summer can you provide appropriate shade to prevent sunburn.
