How to save orchids with rotten roots and how to grow new roots

1. How to rescue

1. Remove all the outer skin of the rotten roots of the orchid, leaving the root core about 3-5cm in length. Then cut the leaves in half, soak the plants in potassium permanganate solution for about 15 minutes, and then place them in a cool and ventilated place to dry for about half a day. If there is sunshine, you can wrap the leaves with newspaper, leaving the reeds exposed, and place them on a rack. It takes about 10 minutes to dry in the sun in summer and 1 hour in winter.

2. Prepare clean soft river sand or sphagnum moss as planting material for orchids. It is best to use relatively moist river sand for planting, and it must be disinfected before use. When planting, the orchid rhizome needs to be covered with planting material by about 2-3 cm.

3. The flower pots need to be soaked in boiling water before use to disinfect them. Then lay a layer of leaves or moss on the bottom, which can effectively prevent sand from being lost and also play a moisturizing role.

4. Plant the dried orchid in a pot filled with river sand, then cover and compact it with planting material, and then spread a layer of moss on the surface to moisturize it. After planting, there is no need to water the plant. Just place it in a cool place and let it recover. When new buds appear on the orchid, it means the plant has survived.

2. How to grow new roots

1. Suitable temperature: The right temperature allows orchids to grow new roots quickly. If the temperature can be maintained at around 28 degrees, the orchid can quickly sprout new roots. In addition, the suitable temperature for orchid growth is between 20-30 degrees. Within this temperature range, the roots of the plant can also germinate and grow quickly.

2. Appropriate humidity: There needs to be good humidity both inside and outside the pot so that the plant can grow new roots. The environmental humidity should be kept at around 70%, and the pot should be kept moist but not dry, so that the crystal head of the orchid can grow quickly.
