How to grow aloe vera in pots

Aloe vera is a versatile plant. Not only is it suitable as a home potted plant , its juicy leaves also have therapeutic effects. Although some flower lovers may find aloe vera difficult to maintain, causing the leaves to dry out and lose water, and its growth to be weak, in fact, as long as you understand and follow the growth habits of aloe vera, you can easily grow it well. Let’s learn how to grow potted aloe vera.

1. Soil selection

Aloe vera is tolerant to poor soil and can be cultivated using garden soil. However, in order to enhance the air permeability and water permeability of the soil, coal slag and river sand can be added. This will prevent root rot caused by improper watering even in a home environment.

2. Watering

Follow the principle of "water thoroughly when dry". Water thoroughly after the soil in the pot is completely dry. When the temperature drops in winter, aloe vera grows slowly or stops growing. At this time, the soil should be kept slightly moist or watering should be stopped to help the aloe vera survive the winter safely. During the growing season, sufficient water must be ensured.

3. Fertilization

Regularly supplement aloe vera with multi-element fertilizer to promote balanced growth. If you want to promote rapid leaf growth, you can choose fertilizers with high nitrogen content, such as Huaduoduo No. 10 or homemade bean cake fertilizer water, and apply it 1 to 2 times a month to ensure sufficient nutrients.

4. Lighting

Aloe vera is a sun-loving plant and requires plenty of light. If there is insufficient light, the leaves will become thin and long, the color will become lighter, and the growth will be poor. Therefore, aloe vera should be placed in a place with the most light and avoid dark environments. When there is insufficient light, watering and fertilizing should be reduced to maintain the basic growth state of aloe vera.

In short, as long as daily maintenance and management are done well, aloe vera can thrive in a home environment. The roots will quickly fill the pot and the leaves will grow quickly and become thick. As time goes by, the aloe vera will continue to grow side shoots at the bottom.
