What causes orchid leaves to wrinkle? How to save them

1. Excessive light exposure

Reason: Orchids prefer a semi-shaded environment. If they are usually kept in an environment with sufficient light and long sunshine hours, and if they are not shaded when the sunlight is too strong at noon, their leaves will lack water due to excessive transpiration. The leaves will become slightly wrinkled due to lack of water.

Measures: It needs to be moved to a well-ventilated, shady place as soon as possible for shade treatment, and water should be sprayed on the plant and its surroundings with a spray bottle to replenish excess water consumed by the leaves, increase the humidity of the environment, and promote plant recovery. After the plant recovers, move it to a semi-shaded place with some scattered light for maintenance.

2. Unsuitable soil

Reason: The soil for growing orchids must be loose, fertile and breathable. If the soil becomes compacted, it will affect the breathing and air permeability of the plant. Moreover, when the soil becomes compacted, its water storage capacity will be greatly reduced, which will cause the plant to lack water and cause the leaves to wrinkle.

Measures: The soil needs to be replaced as soon as possible, and the soil should be loose, breathable and contain a certain amount of humus. Some bark or coconut shells can be added to it to enhance the air permeability.

3. Lack of water

Reason: The roots of orchids are fleshy and can store water, so the demand for water is not very high, but it cannot be without water. If the soil in the plant's pot becomes dry during normal maintenance and is not watered in time to replenish moisture, the leaves will become wrinkled over time due to lack of moisture.

Measures: It is necessary to replenish water in time and gradually increase the amount of watering. You can also spray water on the leaves to speed up their recovery. Wait until the plant recovers and then control the amount of water.
