Cultivation methods and precautions of cypress

Cultivation methods and precautions of cypress

1. Maintenance methods

1. Watering: The arborvitae has a certain degree of drought resistance. You don’t need to water it too much when watering. Just wait until the soil is completely dry before watering it. Even if it is a little dry, there must not be any accumulation of water. The plant is very afraid of waterlogging, which can easily cause root rot.

2. Fertilization: Its demand for nutrients is not very high. When it sprouts and takes root in the spring, it only needs to be applied with diluted fertilizer once a month. Be careful not to apply too much to avoid fertilizer damage. You can apply it once or twice in the autumn when it grows fast to ensure that it has enough nutrients it needs.

3. Light: It needs sufficient sunlight to grow, so try to place it in a sunny location when caring for it. It can be grown outdoors or on a balcony with good lighting conditions. It must not be grown in a dark environment, otherwise it will grow slowly or poorly.

4. Flower pots: When potting, try to choose larger and deeper flower pots. Its root system is very developed and strong. Do not use small flower pots to restrict the growth of its root system, which will also result in growth restriction and poor plant growth.

2. Breeding techniques

1. Place: When breeding, you must pay attention to the ventilation of the environment, especially in summer when the air is hot and stuffy and you must provide it with an environment with good air circulation. When winter comes, try to move it indoors for maintenance. It can safely survive the winter at normal room temperature.

2. Reproduction: Cuttings are more commonly used for reproduction. Cutting propagation is divided into spring cuttings and winter cuttings. Spring cuttings are generally carried out in February and March, while winter cuttings are carried out in November. When taking cuttings, select a part of the top of the side branches, cut off the rest of the side branches and leaves, insert them into the soil, water them, and then maintain them in a cool place.

3. Problem diagnosis and treatment

1. Red spider mites: This type of pest is relatively common. If it is raised outdoors, birds will generally peck at it, but prevention is still the main approach. If red spider mites are found, they need to be killed promptly with 3000 times diluted 20% Mite-K emulsifiable concentrate. Persistent use will eradicate them.

2. Purple feather disease: This disease is usually caused by an inappropriate maintenance environment. This situation will occur if the substrate is not clean or is used for a long time. It is necessary to replace the soil with new one in time, which can effectively alleviate the problem.

IV. Other issues

1. Can it be grown indoors?: Cypress is not suitable for indoor cultivation. The main reason is that the indoor environment is not suitable for its growth. Because it needs plenty of sunlight to grow, the indoor lighting is generally not very good, and the ultraviolet rays from the sunlight that pass through the glass are filtered out, which is not very suitable for its growth, so it is better to grow it outdoors as much as possible.

2. Whether it blooms: The arborvitae will bloom, but its flowers are very small and inconspicuous, so they are often overlooked by people. Its flowers are generally yellow and grow at the top of branches, but there are not many of them.
