Can’t tell the difference between Echinops thornii and Echinops thornii? After reading these three points, it is easy to distinguish them!

1. Different appearance

Barbary aconite: It also has another alias called tiger thorn. It is an evergreen shrub with many branches on its stem. There are many longitudinal ridges on its plant, and many thorns grow densely on them. These thorns look hard and sharp, and grow in a rotating state. Every time the flowers fade, it will grow a lot of capsules, which are triangular and oval in shape. When they are ripe, they will split apart one by one. If you look closely, you can see that there are many seeds inside, which are ovoid in shape, gray-brown in color, and have many tiny warts on them.

Euphorbia milii: Its other name is iron hibiscus. It is a creeping shrub with many branches on its stems. There are also many thorns on the plant. These thorns are hard and sharp, and are often arranged on the ridges. In addition, the capsules produced are also triangular-ovate, but the difference is that the capsules of Euphorbia milii will separate into three petals when ripe, while those of Euphorbia milii will split into two petals. The inflorescence is also different.

2. Different growth habits

Barbary Azalea prefers sunny and warm places, and is relatively drought-resistant. It is very afraid of moisture and cold. Summer and autumn are its growing seasons. In winter, as long as the temperature is kept above 3 degrees, it will have no problem surviving the winter. If the temperature can reach 15 degrees and there is sufficient sunlight, it will continue to bloom throughout the winter. Generally speaking, it is grown in both the north and south of our country.

Euphorbia milii: It also likes warm and sunny places, but is also a bit shade-tolerant. In addition, if the temperature is too low in winter, it will easily go into hibernation.

3. Different medicinal effects

Barbary aconite: Its whole plant can be used as medicine. Generally, if applied externally, it can treat some blood stasis, fractures, etc.

Euphorbia pilosa: Basically the whole plant is used as medicine, but it can treat more diseases. For example, it can stop bleeding, especially uterine bleeding, and it can also detoxify and treat some hepatitis and edema symptoms.
