Several common problems in tulip cultivation

Several common problems in tulip cultivation

How to store tulip bulbs

If you do not need to collect seeds after tulips bloom, you should cut off the remaining flowers in time to allow nutrients to be used for the growth of new bulbs.

Digging up the bulbs

Start digging up the tulip bulbs when the leaves turn yellow. Doing it too early or too late will cause unnecessary trouble to the tulips. After digging up the bulbs, you need to remove the soil and place them in a cool place, then put them into paper bags according to their size.

Storage bulbs

Newly dug bulbs should be stored in a well-ventilated place for cultivation, preferably indoors. Since the stems, leaves and flowers of tulips need to differentiate during storage, the storage temperature should be most suitable at 15-18℃.

During storage, the bulbs should be checked frequently for signs of rot. If found, they need to be discarded promptly and prevented from being infested by rodents.

How to improve the fruit setting rate of tulips

Tulips need to be propagated by sowing, so that better varieties can be obtained. During the flowering period, the application of phosphorus and potassium fertilizers should be increased, and watering should be reduced for artificial pollination. When tulips bloom, pollen will fall, so they need to be divided in the morning, placed in the mature pistils in the center of the flower, and bagged. This should be done three times in a row. When the fruits of the plant are fully ripe, they should be collected in time and placed in a ventilated place indoors. The seeds should be placed in a paper bag and wait for sowing.
