What is the reason why the leaves of the money tree have spots and turn yellow?

Many families like to place money trees indoors. It not only symbolizes wealth and prosperity, but also provides good ornamental value with its unique appearance. However, yellowing and spotting of leaves are common problems in the process of caring for the money tree. Faced with this situation, we need to take the right approach to solve it. So what is the reason why the leaves of the money tree have spots and turn yellow?

1. Leaf spot disease prevention and control

Leaf spot disease of money tree is usually caused by fungi. Initially, small brown spots will appear on the edges or tips of the leaves, which will then expand into grayish-white spots. In severe cases, the leaves will turn yellow and wither. This disease may be related to improper water and fertilizer management, and is more likely to occur under low temperature and high humidity conditions. To prevent leaf spot disease, the plant density should be reasonably controlled, good ventilation and light transmission should be ensured, drainage and humidity reduction should be carried out in time, and fertilizer should be applied in time to enhance the plant's resistance. The indoor temperature should be kept above 16℃ in winter. To treat leaf spot disease, you can use 800 times diluted 50% carbendazim wettable powder to spray the diseased part.

2. Leaf blight management

Leaf blight is different from leaf spot. When the disease occurs, black-brown spots will appear on the leaves, and the inside will appear as burnt brown spots. If not treated in time, the spots will spread to the entire plant. Leaf blight is caused by a fungus that lurks in the soil and spreads through the air to infect leaves. It is more susceptible to infection when there is a lack of phosphorus and potassium fertilizers or the plants are weak. The treatment method is to cut off diseased branches and leaves in time, improve ventilation and light conditions, and apply appropriate topdressing to enhance immunity. In the rainy season, you can spray carbendazim for prevention, and in serious cases, you can use pesticides such as thiophanate-methyl for spraying.

3. Reasonable watering

The money tree is drought-resistant and its roots have the function of storing water. Overwatering can cause root rot and yellowing of new leaves. The plant should be moved to a well-ventilated place and watered thoroughly after the soil is dry.

4. Temperature control

The money tree grows best in an environment of 20-30℃. Low temperatures can easily cause frostbite, spotting and yellowing of new leaves. Insulation measures need to be taken in winter.

5. Lighting adjustment

The money tree likes light, but strong light will burn the leaves and cause spots. The plant should be placed in a cool and ventilated place to avoid direct sunlight in summer.

6. Apply fertilizer appropriately

Fertilizer concentrations that are too high can cause spotting and yellowing of new leaves. The plant should be moved to a ventilated place and watered abundantly to dilute the nutrients in the soil so that normal growth can be gradually restored.

In short, when facing the problem of yellowing and spotting of money tree leaves, comprehensive management should be carried out from many aspects, including reasonable watering, temperature control, light adjustment and appropriate fertilization. With careful care, you can maintain the healthy growth of the money tree.
