The reason why the stems of potted lilies turn black

The reason why the stems of potted lilies turn black

1. Poor ventilation

Potted lilies need good ventilation during their growth process. If the growing environment is too hot and stuffy, it will cause growth problems and cause the lily stems to turn black. It is usually placed on a well-ventilated windowsill, especially in the summer when more attention should be paid to ventilation. When the weather is good, it can be placed outdoors for maintenance.

2. Watering too frequently

It is a bulbous plant that can withstand drought. If you water it as soon as you find the soil in the pot has become dry, it will result in too frequent watering, causing water accumulation in the soil, which may cause the roots to suffocate and rot, thus affecting the transport function, causing problems such as blackening of the stems, falling of flower buds, and yellowing of leaves. Normally, water should be given according to the growth trend, and water should be given only after the soil is completely dry. Also pay attention to the amount of water to avoid excessive watering.

3. Low temperature

Lilies are suitable for growing in a temperature range of 16-24 degrees Celsius. If the temperature in winter is lower than 5 degrees Celsius, their growth will stagnate and they will be frostbitten. The stems will turn black and there will be problems with the branches, leaves and flowers. Its cold resistance is slightly worse, so you should keep warm in winter, and it is best to maintain the temperature above 10 degrees Celsius.

4. Improper fertilization

It requires a certain amount of fertilizer to supplement growth, but if the fertilizer concentration is too high, it will cause root burn, which will cause the stems to turn black.
