Grape Management Techniques in March

Grape Management Techniques in March

Spring is a critical period for grape sprouting, leafing, branch elongation, heading, flowering and fruiting. March to mid-to-late April is an important stage in grape management , requiring work such as bud removal, shoot determination, flower spike treatment and disease and pest control . Let’s learn the key points of grape management techniques in March.

1. Irrigation and fertilization

Spring is the period when grape flower buds continue to differentiate and new shoots grow vigorously, and a large amount of nutrients are needed at this time. Therefore, the grape orchard should be irrigated in time to ensure uniform budding. At the same time, apply decomposed human feces and urine mixed with 0.2% urea to provide sufficient nutrients for the plants. In addition, it can be used in conjunction with Flower King No. 3 to control vigorous branch growth, promote the transfer of nutrients to the young fruit development system, and enhance the vitality of fruit expansion.

2. Bud removal and shoot determination

After winter pruning, most of the winter buds on the fruiting mother branches will germinate. At this time, you need to pay attention to leaving a reasonable amount of buds: leaving too many buds will waste nutrients, weaken the tree, and be unfavorable for fruit setting; leaving too few buds may cause vigorous growth of branches and vines. Therefore, it is necessary to reasonably control the amount of buds according to the growth potential of the plant and the number of fruiting mother branches to ensure balanced distribution of nutrients.

3. Pest and disease control

When the grapes sprout 3 to 5 leaves, disease and pest control work needs to be started in time. Spray the pesticide every 7 to 10 days, especially after rain. Before the disease occurs, you can spray 600 times the new lipid film solution to form a polymer protective film, optimize the plant's water absorption, air permeability and light transmission quality, shield disease and insect signals, and enhance stress resistance. When using pesticides , it is recommended to use them together with the new lipid film to improve the control effect and reduce the amount of pesticides used.

IV. Precautions

1. Garden cleaning work

Whether it is a buried area or an unburied area, it is necessary to clean the tendrils, branches and petioles on the field grape racks before the buds sprout, and eliminate the overwintering insect eggs on the grape racks and stakes.

2. Peel off the old bark

After putting it on the shelf, peel off the old bark. The old skin not only affects the breathing of the branches and vines of the grape plants, but also serves as a place for pathogens and insect eggs to overwinter and reproduce. Peeling off old bark is one of the important measures to reduce diseases and pests. When operating, you need to use moderate force to avoid damaging the phloem of the branches and trunks, and the scraped bark should be taken out of the orchard and burned in a centralized manner.

3. Apply lime sulfur

Overwintering grape vines often carry pathogens and insect eggs. After peeling off the old skin, you can apply 5 degrees Baume lime sulfur mixture. Careful operation can effectively prevent felt disease and black pox disease.

4. Use lime nitrogen

When lime nitrogen dissolves in water, it forms an aqueous solution of cyanamide, which is an effective agent for breaking the dormancy of grapes. In some areas in the south where low temperatures are insufficient and spring germination is uneven, you can use 10-20 times the amount of lime nitrogen solution to apply to the buds before germination to promote uniform germination, which also has a positive effect on the differentiation and formation of flower buds.

The above are the key technical points and precautions for grape management in March. Different varieties and different regions have different management focuses. Please pay attention to the actual situation.
