When and how to take cuttings of bougainvillea

When and how to take cuttings of bougainvillea

1. Time Selection

There is little time limit for Bougainvillea cuttings, and cuttings can be carried out in all four seasons of the year. As long as the temperature is suitable and a good environment is guaranteed, it will basically survive. The most suitable time is spring and autumn. It is recommended to choose March to April in spring and around September in autumn. The temperature in these two seasons is more suitable and can basically be maintained at around 18-25 degrees Celsius, which is conducive to survival. Moreover, the growth momentum is better at this time, the growth is relatively vigorous, and the germination ability is strong.

2. How to take cuttings

1. Cut branches: Choose a bougainvillea that is in good growth condition, and cut strong branches from it. It is best to cut one-year-old branches that have not yet become woody. Also check for diseases and pests. The length should be about 9-12 cm. Cutting the bottom of the branch at an angle can increase the absorption area. The leaves at the bottom should also be removed, leaving 3-4 leaves at the top.

2. Prepare the substrate: The substrate must be breathable and can be mixed with peat soil and perlite. Such a substrate is suitable for cuttings.

3. Carry out cuttings: Apply rooting agent on the bottom of the branch, and then insert it into the substrate. It does not need to be inserted too deep.

4. Post-management: Place the cuttings in a ventilated and bright place, but avoid strong light.
