Time and method of planting mustard tuber

Mustard tuber planting time

Pickled mustard tuber is usually planted in autumn, specifically from September to October. The specific time depends on weather conditions and planting environment. The early or late sowing time is related to the quality and yield of the pickled mustard tuber. If sowing is too early, viral diseases are likely to occur. Sowing too late will cause the tubers to become smaller and reduce the yield.

How to plant mustard tuber

1. Land preparation and fertilization

Pickled mustard tuber is suitable for growing on loose, fertile sandy soil with convenient irrigation and drainage. Apply well-rotted base fertilizer in advance and turn the soil over so that the fertilizer is completely buried in the soil, which can improve the soil fertility.

2. Sowing and seedling raising

Soak the mustard tuber seeds in clean water for 5 minutes. After soaking, mix the seeds with wood ash and spread them on the seedbed. Cover them with soil and fertilizer, and finally cover them with a layer of straw. The best time for sowing is mid-September.

3. Seedling management

After the pickled mustard seedlings emerge from the soil, the covering material on top can be removed. Thinning should be carried out when the seedlings grow two true leaves, and thinning out again when the seedlings grow the third true leaf. When the seedlings grow three pairs of true leaves, they can be transplanted.

Precautions for planting mustard tuber

Diseases are prone to occur during the seedling stage of mustard tuber. You can spray 1000-1500 times diluted thiophanate on the seedbed for prevention and control. If cabbage loopers appear, spray it with chrysanthemum emulsion mixed with water. If aphids are present, use a net solution mixed with water for prevention and control.

The demand for fertilizer during the growth period of the mustard tuber is relatively large, so the base fertilizer should be applied sufficiently so that it can grow better. In addition, after the mustard tuber is transplanted and survives, it can be topdressed with diluted manure water to make the seedlings turn green quickly.
