How to grow Phalaenopsis

How to grow Phalaenopsis

1. Breeding environment

(1) Temperature: preferably between 16 and 30 degrees Celsius. The temperature should not be lower than 13 degrees in winter and higher than 32 degrees in summer.

(2) Humidity: This refers to the humidity of the air, which should be between 60 and 80 percent.

(3) Watering: Water more frequently during the growing season in spring and summer. In summer, it can be done twice a day, at 9 am and 5 pm. Water less during the dormant period and no watering is required in winter.

(4) Light: It can be placed in a semi-shaded place at ordinary times, and provide scattered light before and after the flowering period.

(5) Fertilization: During the growth period, more fertilizer is needed. Use thin liquid fertilizer once every one to ten days. Use phosphorus fertilizer during the flowering period, once every two or three weeks.

2. Pruning

Here we are mainly talking about the period after flowering. The plant's flowering period is generally around the Spring Festival, and the flowers will wither after about two or three months. At this time, it is necessary to cut off the withered flowers in time to reduce nutrient consumption. If you cut it from four or five nodes at the base of the flower stem, it will bloom again, but it will not be conducive to flowering next year. Therefore, the correct approach is to cut the flower stems off from the base.

3. Repotting

The plant grows very fast and needs to be repotted regularly. If the matrix ages or its air permeability deteriorates, it should be replaced in time. It can usually be replaced around May, before new leaves grow out. Replace the old soil that is lacking in nutrients or has poor air permeability, and then change to a larger pot that suits the size of the plant. This will provide it with a relaxed environment for growth.
