The breeding method of Rhododendron serrata

Cuttings

This method may already be familiar to old flower lovers, but there are also many friends who have never used it. It is still necessary to introduce the specific method in detail, and the method suitable for each plant is not the same. The time for cuttings of this mountain-grown azalea can be chosen in late spring, when the temperature is just right for them, and the branches chosen must be healthy new branches.

It is best to use branches that have already begun to become woody, so that they will be easier to survive after the operation steps are completed. It is best to soak the base with a solution that can promote rooting. Choose soil with good air permeability. The temperature requirements are also very strict. It is best to keep it at 20-25℃ during the period. At the same time, pay attention to shading and moisturizing, so that the rooting speed can be faster.

sowing

This type of azalea can also reproduce sexually, but if it is hybridized, the probability of bearing fruit is not high, so artificial pollination should be chosen to obtain more seeds. After obtaining the seeds, let them dry naturally in a ventilated place. Their seeds are very fine and small, and if they are stored for too long, the probability of germination will be affected. Be sure to choose a shallow clay pot, and the potting soil must also be carefully selected. If conditions permit, it is best to choose a shady hillside surface, dig the soil there, and then disinfect it immediately. Wait until it cools down to be almost half dry before you can use it.

After sowing, they will generally germinate after 5 weeks. When the seedlings grow two or three true leaves, you can gently pick them out and plant them in other pots. Not too densely. When the seedlings reach ten centimeters, you can apply some thin fertilizer.
