How to propagate ash trees

How to propagate ash trees

Seed propagation

This method is more complicated to operate. Friends who are willing to try can follow the elements I mentioned. First, you need to collect seeds. Their seeds generally mature in September and October. At this time, choose healthier plants and pick them in time when the samaras turn yellow and the seed kernels have begun to harden. After the seeds are processed, they can be germinated.

Because seeds have a long dormancy period, germination is also very important. At this time, you can choose a location that is sheltered from the wind and facing the sun to dig a trench below the permafrost layer, but also ensure that it is above the underground water level. The width is about 80cm, and the length should be enough for planting seeds. Then spread a layer of wet sand about ten centimeters thick underneath. Then you can put the seeds into the ditch and mix them thoroughly with the wet sand.

A layer of wet sand should be added about 10 cm from the ground, and finally covered with soil. This process takes about two or three months. After that, you can sow and maintain the plants normally. One thing to remind you at this time is that if there is drought in early spring, you must replenish water in time, otherwise the soil will become hardened and no buds will sprout.

Cutting propagation

Everyone must be familiar with this method. This method is relatively simple. It is recommended that you choose this method if conditions permit. First, you need to choose good branches. Each section should not exceed 20cm, and the lower end should be cut at an angle. Try to use a sharper knife so as not to damage the remaining branches and bark. After disinfection, you can soak them in rooting solution to help them take root.

Before planting, you need to prepare the land for cultivating them and add basic fertilizer. Organic fertilizer is best. After covering the film, the cuttings are completed, but the later management cannot be ignored. Properly shading them from the sunlight can increase their survival rate.
