How to sow snapdragon seeds

Disinfection

Before sowing, snapdragon seeds and their culture medium need to be disinfected. Soak snapdragon seeds in a 0.5% potassium permanganate solution for 1-2 hours. You can add an appropriate amount of thiophanate-methyl powder to the medium and stir it 2 or 3 times to fully mix it with the medium. Then spray water while stirring. It is best if the medium can be held in a ball by hand and is loose but not scattered. Finally, cover it with a film and leave it for about 8-10 hours before placing it in the hole tray.

Sowing method

The seeds of snapdragon are relatively small. Before sowing, apply base fertilizer in the pot and then scatter the seeds. Generally, each hole tray can sow about two hundred seeds, and put one seed in each hole. After sowing, press gently with your hands to make the seeds adhere to the medium, then spray water thoroughly, and finally cover with newspaper or plastic film. There is no need to cover the soil when sowing. After that, it will take about 7-10 days to be unearthed.

Maintenance after sowing

Snapdragon is a light-loving plant that germinates. The suitable germination temperature is between 20-22℃. It needs to be given appropriate amount of light, but be careful to avoid direct sunlight. At the same time, keep the medium moist. The newspaper needs to be kept moist for a long time until the seeds germinate and then turn the newspaper over. It usually takes 7-15 days to germinate. After the seedlings germinate, they need to be moved to an environment with a temperature of 16-18℃ for growth.

After the snapdragon seedlings have grown for 5-7 weeks, they can be directly planted in a 7-8 cm pot. Snapdragon is light-loving and a long-day plant. A sunshine time of more than 12 hours is more conducive to the differentiation of flower buds. Based on this characteristic, appropriate light supplementation can be used to promote early flowering, but at the same time, care should be taken to prevent the harm caused by excessively high temperatures.
